THE BLACK DRAGONS CREDO
WE RISE AS ONE
We, the Black Dragons Initiative, stand as the Leviathan of our people—many scales joined together without space between, creating a force no oppressor can withstand. We emerge at this crucial Moment in THE Movement to declare without apology our commitment to the complete liberation and self-determination of Black people.
We are the inheritors of generations of resistance, from maroon communities to the civil rights struggle, from Black Power to contemporary movements asserting that Black Lives Matter. We honor our ancestors who carved pathways to freedom through seemingly impenetrable barriers.
We stand particularly in the tradition of community builders like Ralph McCartney of Overtown, Miami, who understood that liberation requires both visible protest and behind-the-scenes work—securing safe passage for our children across dangerous highways, preserving our educational institutions, and creating infrastructure that serves our needs. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he simply replied, "That I was a McCartney"—understanding that true legacy lives in community impact, not individual recognition.
From this rich soil of resistance and community care, we proclaim our unshakable commitments:
OUR PRINCIPLES
POLITICAL INDEPENDENCE: We will build and control the institutions that govern our communities. We reject hollow representation within systems designed for our subjugation. We demand decision-making power over the conditions of our lives.
ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY: We will create cooperative enterprises, community-controlled financial institutions, and sustainable resource systems that circulate wealth within our communities rather than extracting it. We understand that political power without economic power is illusory.
CULTURAL RENAISSANCE: We will reclaim, honor, and advance the diverse traditions, knowledge systems, and creative expressions of African and diasporic peoples. We recognize that decolonizing the mind is inseparable from liberating material conditions.
RADICAL SOLIDARITY: We will forge connections with Black communities worldwide and with all peoples fighting against systems of domination. Our liberation is bound with the liberation of all oppressed peoples.
OUR PLEDGE
We pledge to build autonomous institutions meeting our communities' needs—from education to healthcare, from media to food systems.
We pledge to secure economic justice and reparations for centuries of theft and exploitation.
We pledge to reclaim land and resources as the physical foundation of sovereignty.
We pledge to establish governance structures accountable to our communities rather than external interests.
We pledge to forge Pan-African unity and global alliances that strengthen our collective power.
