June 14, 2026Public reporting states that an officer fired into a vehicle outside the Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi, during a response to a shoplifting call. Kohen was fatally shot; a young woman in the vehicle was reported injured.
InvestigationThe Mississippi Bureau of Investigation took the case. As of 9 September 2026 no body-camera or store surveillance footage has been released publicly, and public reporting records no charges against the officer who fired. Counsel for the family has publicly called for the footage to be released.
July 18, 2026Mississippi Today reported an internal complaint alleging a racially offensive remark by a Senatobia sergeant two days before the shooting. The complainant resigned, citing the department’s response.
September 1, 2026Senatobia’s board of aldermen voted to terminate Police Chief Harold Vanderford, rejecting a resignation he submitted the same day, after reporting that he had used racial slurs in private text messages. This is a separate matter from the shooting itself and is recorded here as public fact, not as a finding about how Kohen died.

Building Bridges carries community relationships and public witness; E5 contributes nonprofit infrastructure, digital production, and institutional stewardship. The work is designed to honor Kohen, support the family’s pursuit of truth, and help the public act without speculation or abuse.

Why boycott Walmart?
The campaign challenges a system in which corporate surveillance may be accessible to law enforcement while grieving families lack a clear, equal path to obtain the same evidence through lawful process.
Until Walmart adopts a transparent family-access policy and responds to the footage demand, supporters are asked to redirect discretionary spending and tell the company why.
The demands
Preserve and provide relevant footage to Kohen’s family or counsel through the appropriate lawful process.
Adopt an equal-access policy giving victims’ families a clear and timely request path.
Publish transparent rules for preservation, disclosure, withholding, and appeal.
This is a peaceful consumer-action and public-petition campaign. It advocates policy change and transparency; it does not claim that Walmart caused Kohen’s death.
