A farm that senses itself, heals itself, and belongs to the people who work it.

AgriMesh is a proposed offline-first farm sensing system, now under development — a self-healing mesh of low-cost sensors and on-device intelligence, designed for the small farms and urban growers that precision agriculture left behind. It is pursued by AgriMesh Corporation — our Florida for-profit — and this page is told by E5 Enclave Inc.

The problem

The second acre.

Precision agriculture was built for the five-thousand-acre operation: machine fleets, subscription dashboards, and a data pipeline that assumes broadband reaches the field.

On a half-acre urban farm or a small family plot, none of that arrives. The hardware is priced for commodity acres. The software assumes a fiber line the field doesn't have. The nearest service technician may be counties away.

So the growers closest to the food farm blind — making irrigation and planting decisions by instinct alone, while the data tools sit one income bracket and one broadband gap out of reach. We call it the second acre: the ground the brochure was never written for.

The inversion

We listened.

The first version of this idea centered a distributed ledger — every sensor reading validated on-chain, with the ledger at the heart of the architecture.

A review panel pushed back. The ledger added complexity — and cost of attention — that the farm did not need. So we inverted the architecture: offline-first, the ledger deferred to an optional Phase II module, to be built only if institutional buyers ever demonstrate a real audit-driven need for it.

We kept what the field needs — sensors, mesh, on-device intelligence — and set aside what it doesn't. Rigor means rebuilding when the feedback is right.

The NSF invited our full SBIR proposal — no award decision has been made. The SBIR effort is pursued by AgriMesh Corporation, our Florida for-profit — not by E5 Enclave Inc.

How it works

Four innovations, one field.

Innovation one

Self-healing field mesh

Farm devices talk to each other over a self-healing wireless mesh — proposed on open protocols like Babel and batman-adv — with no ISP in the middle. When a node drops, routes recalculate and the conversation continues. It is designed for the places broadband forgot: low-connectivity urban lots and rural fields alike.

Innovation two

Hyper-local sensor arrays

The design calls for low-cost standardized arrays — soil moisture at two depths, temperature, humidity, pressure, pH, and light — at roughly one array per two hundred square feet: far denser than typical commercial deployments. Redundant cross-validation between neighboring sensors filters anomalies before any decision is made.

Innovation three

On-device farm intelligence

Lightweight models read the sensor streams on low-power edge computers and recommend the next action — irrigate now, or wait for the rain that's coming. No round trip to the cloud, and no pause when the uplink drops. The field keeps thinking with or without the internet.

Innovation four

Community-governed data

Readings live in an encrypted local database, and the growers who work the land decide who sees them. No outside dashboard owns the season's data. Any sharing — with researchers, with buyers, with a cooperative — happens on terms the community sets.

This is the AgriMesh twin — a simulated replay of a field at dawn, rendered from a frozen, version-stamped dataset. Every frame is labeled. Nothing here pretends to be live data.

1 · HealthyEvery node is talking. Mesh traffic moves along the strongest links; the soil map reads even.
2 · A node dropsOne sensor goes dark — a drained battery, a storm, an accident. Its links go quiet.
3 · The mesh reroutesNeighbors recalculate routes. Traffic bends around the hole; no data is orphaned.
4 · HealedA replacement node joins and the mesh absorbs it. The field is whole again — nobody called tech support.

AgriMesh is a testbed program, not a product with results to report. The work is proposed — the ground is real.

Proposed testbed

Liberty City / Overtown

The proposed AgriMesh testbed sits in Miami-Dade: urban growing sites in Liberty City and Overtown, where connectivity is thinnest and the growing is most hands-on. This is where the mesh is designed to prove itself first.

Planned

Peri-urban / rural site

A second site — peri-urban or rural — is planned to prove the mesh where broadband truly ends. Site selection is underway; nothing is claimed before the sensors are in the ground.

Earlier phase · distinct

The FarmBlock Pilot

Before AgriMesh, an earlier architecture called FarmBlock was piloted at two sites — a Liberty City community garden and a Homestead farm. The FarmBlock Pilot was a deployment phase of that earlier, ledger-centered system: related to this work, not identical to it.
